Learn From My Story
I am Lenny Dillard and I grew up in a poor neighborhood on the west side of a small town outside of Atlanta, Georgia. I grew up in a rough housing-project environment where I lived trying to overcome many struggles. In this passage, I will attempt to divulge things that I hope will help someone with similar struggles overcome.
I was never sure how my life would turn out, but I had dreams that never included the true path my life went. I remember filling out the questionnaire in ninth grade as to what career path I wanted to pursue and my choices where definitive: Artist, pilot and pro baseball player. I had talent growing up and I loved helping people so naturally I wanted to channel that into a way to make income and be my own boss. My dreams of becoming a fighter pilot faded when the military didn't show interest in my applications, and my attentiveness to old friends and the streets didn't go well with my path to success. Pro baseball would have fit me well only if my family had the monies to send me to all the camps it would take to develop me. I had won a local "Pitch-Hit-And Run" contest in my home town and being one of only two boys in Junior League who could hit home runs, word got around. I knew I had a destiny and a calling but didn't have the knowledge and understanding to properly channel the energy to see it materialize. To be clear, I give all of my praise and glory to the Almighty God YEHOVAH. Through the blood sacrifice of Jesus Christ I have life and hope.
I have always felt God's presence in my life and have always set my hand to do my own thing in many matters. After life-event after life-event, I began to see my life spiral out of control. Failed relationships and business endeavors led to an anger problem and misdirected energy led to mental instability and depression.
I remember as a child being abused in every way and as a young adult seeing friendships materialize into clouds- of-smoke. But nothing could prepare me for a life-time of rejection. That's where God comes in. He has been my source and strength my entire life. It seems He has sort of planned for me to be rejected by mankind only to have me rely totally on Him. This seems a bit far fetched but the life-events in which I have overcome time-and-time again have been nothing short of miraculous! I have been kidnapped, verbally abused, molested, poisoned, stabbed, run off a cliff, shot, beaten, ganged, lied on, cheated, robbed, abandoned, and locked up and I am healthy, I have a wonderful support partner, I understand my destiny, I have knowledge of things unknown to most men, I have my son, I have a brilliant "God-sent" pet dog, I understand my past and my future, and I know God and my position on this earth in relation to Heaven. I wish for all mankind to have this understanding so I will state the simple steps I took to help me overcome some things and be on the path to overcoming others.
When I began to pay attention to God and what He was saying to me things began to make sense and my eyes began to open. Before, it was just feelings.
LIFE PHASE ONE
When I was a teenager at the age of fifteen, I carried a gun. I was always responsible with them and growing up in an area where hunting was a popular sport I became an enthusiast. However, growing up in a bad neighborhood, I found reasons to carry a gun - like protecting my family from bad elements that came to our area looking for trouble and against hate groups such as the KKK who frequently held rallies and even ran a sports bar near my home. I took it upon myself to be the "protector" of my friends and family. I never operated out of anger or revenge. Only from a perspective of protection. This idea of being a protector will remain with me throughout my life.
LIFE PHASE TWO
As a young professional starting my art and design career I had it all figured out...so I thought! I had left the old life behind and started art school in Atlanta, Georgia. Things were looking up. But as I said earlier, the lack of knowledge and understanding of God's plan can be detriment to a goal or dream and as soon as it began, it began. One life-event after another and next thing I'm dropping out of school.
LIFE PHASE THREE
But God continued to lift me up. The jobs I landed as a graphic designer helped me to gain valuable insight into my industry which propelled me to a career in advertising I never would have expected. I am now working as a graphic design professional and I own a design firm and an on-line retail clothier.
LIFE PHASE FOUR
My life looks brighter every day thanks to God! When I think of the things I did to help me start implementing God's plan in my life, they were these:
-
Stopped listening to others and studied for myself
-
Asked God through prayer and fasting for help
-
Implemented the Leviticus diet
-
Started worshiping on Saturday
When I began to do these I noticed immediate changes for the better in my health and finances. I began to experience and understand the spiritual overflow and foresight into my life, and I began to have the ability to effectively help others with various needs.
